We’re making good progress on the El Moore construction. We started by making sure the building was decontaminated and safe from the elements. Early parts of the construction included work on the roof, improving the brickwork, and adding new windows. We have also begun building the elevator tower which will be connected to the building from the west side. In addition, Monahan Brothers, our general contractors, have started building the rooftop cabins. There will be 4 in all and will be nightly rental space with beautiful views to downtown Detroit. Here are some photos taken of the progress from the week of May 19, 2014.
On the exterior, our window frames are redone in wood and covered in a product called Grace, which will keep the area waterproofed.
We are also working on a good mortar match for our upcoming repair work.
We are building an elevator tower, so we start with the footings.
The interior is coming along, also. Here is Jason walking through one of the floors.
The interior also has some original ceramic tile floors that are beginning to be cleaned up, and are looking great.
Today I managed to climb up on the roof to inspect the future cabins. Here’s what they look like from the exterior and interior.
The view from the roof is spectacular.
